‘Meditation lies in the absolute stillness of Body & Mind’

I am sure you have noticed this in your day to day life situations. When your body is working perfectly well and doing what you want, you don’t really pay attention to it. Which means, you don’t think of the body as a body on a regular basis. It is just taken for granted and is there with you as an experience. But the moment something starts paining, suddenly you become aware of the body. For e.g, if you are sitting and your legs are hurting, then the thought of your legs will circulate in your mind all the time, or if you have a headache, suddenly you would pay more attention to your head than anything else.

Now contrary to this, If your body is perfectly well and at ease, the thought of the body will never arise. If you reach a level where there is absolute stillness in your body without any pain, suddenly the presence of the body will vanish in your conscious experience. And I want you to experiment with this, there is no need to believe or disbelieve me.

Just try this little experiment and then you would know what I am talking about. This experiment should be done in a pitch dark room where there is no ray of light. The night time is the ideal condition for this. Make sure that the external environment is peaceful. Just sit in a normal crosslegged posture which is comfortable for you and keep the light of your room off. Close your eyes and simply pay attention to your natural breathing process without moving your body. Keep doing it for 8 to 10 minutes and then slowly open your eyes momentarily for 5 to 10 seconds and close them again.

If you do this, you will experience that you don’t even know whether your eyes are open or closed or in other words, the very existence of your eyes becomes irrelevant as soon as the light is gone. If you stretch this similar practice a little more and keep doing it on a daily basis, suddenly one day, in your experience, the body will vanish. Which means you won’t even know whether you have a body or not. The only thing which would be there will be consciousness and the awareness of consciousness.

In the similar fashion, while you are observing your breath, if you are able to become a witness of your breath, your thoughts and emotions; you will see that the thoughts & emotions will lose their significance as soon as they are observed without any judgements and they will vanish. As your thoughts become feeble, the mind will vanish in your experience. The only thing which will be there in your conscious experience will be the consciousness itself.

When your body and the mind becomes absolutely still, That’s where the flower of meditation blossom within you and for the first time in your life you will have the taste of your real self which is the consciousness beyond all dualities of life.

Peace and Love!

🙂
