Meditation: A conscious non-doing

The reason why most of the people are not able to sit for Meditation is that they are always in a compulsive mode of mental thought process. Their mind is so noisy that they don’t even realize that they are in a compulsive mode of thinking. It’s like a 24/7 running commentary within their mind. Let’s take an example to understand this. Let’s say in the evening you went to the bathroom & turned on the tap, unfortunately, the tank was empty and there was no water. Seeing this you just went out & forgot to turn off the tap. In the morning, let’s assume you woke up in two different situations:

First situation: The surrounding was quite peaceful and when the water came, it started running and suddenly you heard the noise of running water in the midst of your sleep. You went up to the bathroom & realized, Oh!, the tap is On and you immediately turned it off.

Second Situation: There is a marriage function going on outside your house and there is a huge commotion. Now in this state, you might not even realize that the tap is on and the water will keep running till the tank is empty again. The very simple reason is that the external environment is louder to an extent that the sound of running water inside the bathroom is not audible to you.

This is exactly what is happening with most of the people. Their minds are so noisy that they don’t even realize that there is a nonstop running commentary going on. That’s why they never realize it. Only If your mind is peaceful, there is a possibility of realization & Once you realize it, then you can stop it easily. The problem with most of the people is that their minds are heavily loaded with ideas, thoughts, opinions, and prejudices & that makes the situation worst.

When you sit for Meditation, one of the techniques is you simply bring your attention to the present moment and be aware of your thoughts. The moment you do it for a reasonable amount of time, let’s say 10 minutes, suddenly you realize Oh! I have been continuously thinking for all these moments. Now because you are aware, at least you know that you gotta stop it somewhere otherwise you will burst out. That’s what is happening in the entire world. They are unable to stop their thinking mind and they are landing in all the wrong situations.

This is where your awareness comes into the picture. The quality of your awareness is, it brings clarity. Once you have the clarity of any aspect, you suddenly get empowered to handle that. Similarly, once awareness comes to your mind, the mind suddenly becomes a slave to your awareness and it surrenders. The moment it surrenders, you as an essential Being has won the battle and you have successfully crossed the first hurdle in your Meditation i.e you started meditation as a process and slowly now because the mind is a slave and it doesn’t chatter, the Meditation will become your inherent quality.

As you keep up with the meditative methods, which are purely scientific, One day you will get up from your Meditation and you will see everything from a different perspective, that’s what people call as Self Realization. Which means something which was already there, you suddenly realized it. You experientially realize the fundamental nature of your existence, which is the Experience of oneness both within and outside. Once you touch this dimension of existence, the life becomes a sheer joy……….!

Peace and Love

  1. I love your examples, I not only learned about meditation, but I learned some people have water tanks that need to be filled. That made me realize how spoiled I am, being an American with running water that does not run out, no matter how long you leave it on. It also made me appreciate it more. Thanks for sharing.
